Pune: Just two weeks after launching the S175 (5.0 MW), India’s tallest and most powerful wind turbine, Suzlon has secured its first 105 MW order for the next-generation turbine from Sunsure Energy. The order marks a strong commercial debut for the S175, reinforcing customer confidence in Suzlon’s technology and innovation-led product portfolio. This is also Sunsure’s third order with Suzlon in less than 14 months, taking the cumulative partnership to 400.8 MW.
Powered by a 175-metre rotor and a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower, the S175 is designed to access stronger and more stable wind regimes, enabling higher energy yields and improved project economics. The turbine expands the potential market for wind energy by making previously unviable sites commercially attractive.
The project includes the supply, erection, commissioning and maintenance of 21 S175 wind turbine generators to be installed in Bijapur, Karnataka.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said that Sunsure began its wind energy journey with Suzlon and has grown into one of India’s largest and fastest-growing C&I-focused renewable energy providers. He added that the partnership has expanded across geographies and technologies, culminating in Sunsure becoming the launch customer for Suzlon’s next-generation 5 MW S175 turbine.
Manish Mehta, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Sunsure Energy, said the company’s strategy is focused on delivering firm and reliable clean energy to support India’s accelerating electrification and manufacturing growth. He noted that the S175 is designed for firm and dispatchable power and aligns with Sunsure’s ambition of becoming a 10 GW platform by 2030.
Ajay Kapur, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group, said the project could become a benchmark for energy generation and project economics. He added that the development of 400.8 MW with Sunsure Energy within 14 months reflects the rapid growth of India’s commercial and industrial renewable energy market and the trust customers place in Suzlon’s technology, execution and innovation.
