Greater Noida (Staff Correspondent): NHPC CMD R.K. Chaudhary has been conferred with the prestigious ‘CBIP Individual Award for Outstanding Contribution for Development of Water Resources Power, and Renewable Energy Sector’. Ghanshyam Prasad, President, CBIP (Central Board of Irrigation & Power) and Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority presented the award to Chaudhary during CBIP Day celebrations and Awards presentation ceremony at New Delhi on 21st March 2025. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects & Technical), NHPC, Shri Suprakash Adhikari, ED (O&M), NHPC and other senior NHPC officers were also present on the occasion.
Chaudhary is a graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT Sindri and has also done Advance Diploma in Management. He possesses over 36 years of rich and vast experience in all aspects of development of a hydro-project from concept to commissioning and has made notable contribution in development of hydropower in India and Bhutan. Chaudhary has especially contributed to the Kalpong Hydroelectric Project, which was commissioned 16 months ahead of schedule in the remote Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He also played a key role in the commissioning of the Teesta-V (510 MW) and Mangdechhu (720 MW) Hydroelectric Projects and was instrumental in repairing the Head Race Tunnel of the 1020 MW Tala Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan as an expert member.
NHPC’s 94.2 MW Tanakpur Power Station (Uttarakhand) has been also been conferred with the CBIP Award 2024 for “Best Performing Hydro Power Project” during the programme. This award recognizes the relentless efforts, operational excellence and commitment of the NHPC team at Tanakpur Power Station. The award appreciates the project’s consistent outstanding performance and contribution to the nation’s power generation and setting a benchmark for operational efficiency in the hydropower sector. This award also reinforces NHPC’s dedication to excellence and its mission to deliver reliable, clean and sustainable energy to the nation. R.K. Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC received the award from Ghanshyam Prasad, President, CBIP and Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority alongwith Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects & Technical), NHPC, Shri Suprakash Adhikari, ED (O&M), NHPC, Rishi Ranjan Arya, HOP, NHPC Tanakpur Power station and other senior NHPC officers.
