New Delhi (World Desk): 10-year-old boy, Alberto Davila Aragon, from Britain has broken the world record for memorizing decimal digits of Pi. By memorizing 280 digits of Pi in just one minute, he not only broke the record but also touched a new height in the field of memorizing digits of the mathematical constant Pi. This achievement has proved to be an unprecedented milestone for him. Alberto’s journey began in March 2024, when his school organized a Pi digit competition. The winner of this competition received a fun and unique prize – the opportunity to hit the principal in the face with a pie. Alberto took it as a fun challenge and promised himself that he would memorize as many digits of Pi as he could.

Alberto shared with Guinness World Records, “There was a pi digit competition in school and if I won, I would get a chance to throw a pie in the principal’s face. I found it very funny, and I decided to memorize as many digits of pi as possible.”

Success achieved through determination

Alberto’s first victory was just a small step in his journey. This success inspired him to memorize more digits. He continued to practice and, improving his memory, became fully prepared to break the world record.

Preparations to break the record

When Alberto decided to break this record, his parents also helped him a lot. They took the help of mathematicians, arranged for experienced timekeepers and a professional witness, so that the process of breaking the record is completely correct. Alberto said, “We thought of setting this record at a prestigious place. The view of the suspension bridge from the Clifton Observatory was special for me because I see that bridge every day while going to school.”

Unique opportunity to break a record on Pi Day

Alberto broke this record on the occasion of Pi Day, which is celebrated every year on March 14. Pi Day is named after the first three digits of Pi (3.14) and this day holds special significance for math lovers. On this special occasion, Alberto proved that with hard work and dedication, any big challenge can be overcome.
