Mumbai: Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s wife and well-known sports broadcaster Sanjana Ganesan has reacted sharply to the comments and trolling being made on social media about her son Angad. On Sunday, through Instagram Stories, she gave a befitting reply to those who were making fun of her son’s facial expressions during the IPL match at Wankhede Stadium.

Raised questions on the mentality of trolls

Sanjana said that commenting on a child’s behavior based on a few seconds’ clip is not only insensitive, but it also shows the direction in which we are heading as a society. She strongly condemned those social media users who addressed an innocent one-and-a-half-year-old child with words like “depressed” and “in trauma”.

“Using words like trauma and depression in the context of a child says a lot about what we are becoming as a community and it is really very sad,” – Sanjana Ganesan

He further said that it is reprehensible to say such things about someone’s child and personal life without any information. At the same time, he appealed to adopt responsible behavior on social media.

Bumrah’s historic performance

During the same match, Jasprit Bumrah set a new record by becoming the highest wicket-taker in Mumbai Indians history. He played a key role in MI’s victory by taking four wickets against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). MI won the match by 54 runs to register their fifth consecutive win in IPL 2024. Bumrah has played 139 matches for Mumbai Indians so far and has the most wickets to his name, making him one of the franchise’s legends.

Why personal comments on a glimpse of the family?

During the match, Sanjana Ganesan was seen with her son Angad in the stands. In a few seconds of footage, Angad appeared calm and composed, due to which trolls on social media started mocking his emotional state. Reacting to this, Sanjana clearly said, “You do not know anything about our son, nothing about our life and I request you to give your opinion thoughtfully and responsibly.”

Limits in family life and public space

Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan got married in March 2021 and son Angad was born in September 2023. Recently they celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary. The couple, who usually keep their personal life private, has rarely shown their son in the public space so far. This incident has again raised the question as to what extent celebrity children should be protected from the eyes of social media, and whether there should be any limit to online trolling.
