This robot created painting was sold for $1.3 million at Sotheby’s . The Digital Art Day Auction between October 31st and November 7th, 2024, in New York City, Ai-Da’s painting was the first portrait to be auctioned from a human robot.
Now, at AI for Good Global Summit at the United Nations in Geneva, there were 27 bids for the portrait of mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing, Between the auction that the house has expected it to fetch between 120,000 and 180,000 USD, but at the end, an undiscovered buyer acquired the painting for a lump sum of 1,320,000 USD, making it a new record-breaking sale of its kind of AI’s auction. The Ai-Da humanoid robot draws and paints through a combination of cameras putted in her eyes, AI algorithms, and a robotic arm. Photos show the robot depicted as a woman with a black wig styled in a bob, dressed in a t-shirt, and appearing in denim overalls. The name of the robot is a reference to computer programmer “Ada Lovelace”.
