ISRO Receives 2026 AIAA Goddard Astronautics Award for Chandrayaan-3 Moon Landing Success

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has received the 2026 Goddard Astronautics Award for Chandrayaan-3’s soft landing near the Moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023. The highest astronautics honor has been given by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh informed on X, “The mission has been honoured with the prestigious 2026 AIAA Goddard Astronautics Award — the highest recognition in astronautics — for its historic soft landing near the Moon’s south pole and its contribution to future lunar exploration.”

India’s Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra accepted this award on behalf of ISRO at the ASCEND conference in Washington, D.C.

Former ISRO chief S S Somanath writes on X, “Proud of the achievements of ISRO team and the vision of our Prime minister to have a meaningful participation of our nation in Space exploration through further missions to Moon, other planets and building BAS. Space research and capabilities are as important as space economy.”
