Mumbai (National Desk): Traditional family meetings for marriage usually discuss several important aspects, such as family background, social status, and other personal attributes. But an incident in Murtijapur, Maharashtra, proved that arranged marriages can sometimes have another unknown parameter at stake—the CIBIL score.
Rejected just before wedding
According to the reports, the woman’s family rejected the groom just before the wedding was to be finalised. The woman’s uncle decided to check the groom’s CIBIL score, and as soon as the results came out, the wedding plans were called off.
CIBIL score revealed
When the woman’s uncle saw the groom’s CIBIL score, he became worried. According to the report, the groom had several loans in his name and had taken loans from various banks. The most serious thing was that his CIBIL score was found to be low. A low CIBIL score means that the person’s financial history is not good—his credit rating is poor, which can include irregular payments, loan defaults, and financial instability.
Reason for cancellation of marriage
The woman’s family, believing the uncle’s concern to be correct, decided that this man would not be suitable for their niece. The family believed that a person who is already facing financial problems would not be able to provide financial security to his wife. Following this, the family cancelled the marriage proposal.
What is CIBIL score?
The CIBIL score is a three-digit number, which reflects a person’s credit history. The CIBIL score ranges from 300 to 900. A high score indicates a person’s good financial behaviour and stability, while a low score indicates financial instability or loan default. Lending institutions use the CIBIL score to evaluate a person’s creditworthiness, likelihood of repaying a loan on time, and his financial behaviour.
