New Delhi. Some of the powerful electromagnetic emissions in space, called “chirping” waves, have now been heard 150,000 kilometers from Earth. This radiation can be dangerous, as it is associated with harmful radiation for both humans and satellites. An international team of astronomers has detected this strange “chirping” signals, raising new puzzles and questions about their origin.

These chorus waves are short waves of electromagnetic radiation that are produced very high above the Earth’s surface and make sounds similar to the chirping of birds in the form of sound waves. Earlier, these waves were detected only at a distance of 51,000 kilometers (31,690 miles) from Earth, where the Earth’s magnetic field acts like a powerful magnet. Scientists believed that the Earth’s magnetic field has a key role in producing these type of waves.

Even the latest research published in the journal Nature has detected radiation bursts similar to these waves much farther away from Earth, at a distance of 165,000 kilometres. At that distance, the Earth’s magnetic field is more distorted, indicating that chorus waves may not be as closely linked to the dipole magnetic field as previously believed.

It has offered new perspectives on understanding the complex behavior of space radiation and its effects on Earth. With that chorus waves are also found in other planets such as Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, making this discovery more information about our universe and the shape of magnetic fields around planets.

The researchers says that their observations can help resolve long-standing controversies about chorus emissions and understand the transport of energy in space and celestial environments,” the researchers say.
