Rourkela (Staff Correspondent): An Anti-Hijacking Mock Exercise was successfully conducted at Rourkela Airport on 16th May 2025 by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The exercise was organized to test the efficacy of the contingency plan in place for handling hijack situations and was carried out in line with the guidelines issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The primary objective of the exercise was to assess the preparedness, coordination, and crisis response capabilities of various stakeholders in the event of an aircraft hijacking.
The mock exercise involved the simulation of a hijacking incident, real-time deployment of security and emergency response teams, and coordination between airport authorities and external agencies. It also included a thorough evaluation of communication systems, response time, and crisis management protocols to identify areas for improvement and strengthen the overall security framework at the airport.
Key officials and representatives from multiple agencies were present during the exercise. Notable attendees included S. Purohit, Assistant Director, Intelligence Bureau (Ministry of Home Affairs), M.K. Upadhyay, Director, RGH, as well as representatives from the State Police, State Fire Services, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), CNS, AIASL, AIESL, AAAL, and IOCL. Personnel from Airport Security and Fire Services also actively participated, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated effort.
The entire exercise which was meticulously planned and executed was led by Jyoti Prakash Mishra, GM (PH, SW & Airport, RSP) cum Accountable Executive, Rourkela Airport.
