The latest one hears is that the BCCI is most likely to appoint a batting coach to help Gambhir. This is done after the Indian batsmen have underperformed in the five – Test series against Australia where India was beaten 1-3 and lost the Border Gavaskar trophy for the first time in ten years.

Though there has been no official statement, speculations going around in BCCI and the team management are pointing towards the need for the support staff to be augmented in light of the pathetic batting performance by the team.

According to a news report, many of the applicants, including some former cricket legends domestic, will have to be satisfied with a placement at the patio of Indian batting coach as no final decision has yet to be made for this position according to Cricbuzz.

Gautam Gambhir is the current head coach of Indian cricket. Other coaches on the technical advisory group are bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip.

It was Captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma that could not do justice with the Team India against Australia. Kohli performing exceptionally well against Australia began well by scoring a century in the first Test but could not keep his form going, scoring only 190 runs for the series.

Rohit, however, came in the second Test and surrendered his favorite no. 6 slot and returned only 31 runs from three appearances. Rohit decided to stay out of the fifth and final Test match against Border-Gavaskar trophy at Sydney as he was not performing well there.

Team India has been washed out of the WTC final to be held in England subsequent to the five-match Test series defeat against Australia.

The Indian team is preparing for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is likely to begin from February 19. India is in Group A and the bear team will play their first match against Bangladesh on February 20.
