The term ‘Global South’ is used for underdeveloped or developing countries that have a history of colonialism and occupy a lower position in the global economic order.
Prime minister Narendra Modi called for transforming this ‘pyramid of privilege’ into a ‘platform of partnership’—one where every nation has a voice, every member has a stake, and the development of humanity lies at the heart of every endeavor.
To this end, he proposed jointly formulate 10 proposals for global governance reform, aiming to shape them into a BRICS reform roadmap by the time of the next Summit.
Narendra Modi called for the decentralisation of world power structure. He said, “We can create a secure digital repository where, along with every decision, the nodal point, timeline and implementation status can be recorded. Friends, while strengthening BRICS, we must also chart the course for global reform. The current structure of global governance appears like a pyramid. At the top, power and decision-making are concentrated, while at the bottom are countries that are affected by these decisions but have little role in shaping them.”
“If our future is shared, the right to shape that future should also be shared. From voice to impact, from privilege to partnership, this should be the guiding resolve of BRICS at present,” PM Modi added.
