The project, under 765 kV AIS Extension Substation Package SS-155T, involves the development and extension of high-capacity Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission infrastructure, strengthening the power transmission network across one of India’s key renewable energy corridors.
Project Scope
The package covers the extension of two extra-high-voltage substations forming part of the transmission system augmentation at Bhadla-III, Ramgarh PS and Kanpur:
Extension of 765/400/220 kV Ramgarh Pooling Station: 2 numbers of 765/400 kV 1500 MVA ICT Bays, 2 numbers of 400/220 kV 500 MVA ICT Bays, 1 number of 400 kV Line Bay, 2 numbers of 220 kV Line Bays.
Extension of 765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III Substation: Augmentation of 5 numbers of 400/220 kV 500 MVA ICT Bays, 3 numbers of 400 kV Line Bays, and 5 numbers of 220 kV Line Bays.
The Bhadla and Ramgarh substations play an important role in transmitting power generated from western Rajasthan, one of India’s major solar and renewable energy hubs. Expanding their capacity will help connect more renewable energy to the national power grid.
Strengthening SPML’s Power Transmission Portfolio
The order reinforces SPML’s presence in the power transmission and distribution segment, where the Company has an established track record in executing numerous substations, transmission networks and rural electrification projects, connecting more than 20,000 villages with electricity.
Extra-high-voltage substation works for Power Grid represent a technically demanding category of projects, and the award reflects SPML’s engineering and execution capabilities in power T&D.
The order also aligns with SPML’s broader strategy in the power sector, where transmission infrastructure and Battery Energy Storage Systems together play a central role in enabling India’s transition to renewable energy.
