Rourkela (Staff Correspondent): SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) joined the rest of the World in observing World Environment Day on 5th June 2025. In a function organized at the Shilpa Konark premises, Tarun Misra, ED (HR) hoisted the Environment Flag. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), Anil Kumar, ED (MM), MP Singh, ED (Mines), Dr. Jayant Acharya CMO In-Charge (M&HS) along with many Chief General Managers and other Senior Officers of the Plant were present on the occasion.

The Environment pledge was administered to all present in Odia, Hindi and English by Mr. B Palai, Mr. Anil Kumar and Mr. M P Singh respectively. Environment badges were also pinned by the employees.

In his message, Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (RSP) with additional charge of Director In-Charge (ISP & DSP) has reiterated the plant’s commitment to sustainable steelmaking. He stressed on the need to eliminate wastage, optimize processes, and act sustainably. “Your vigilance, your ideas, and your commitment to operational excellence are crucial as we move forward on this green journey,” he added.

Emphasizing the significance of this year’s theme — ‘Beat Plastic Pollution, Mr. Misra described plastic as a “silent killer” that poses a grave threat to the environment. Urging collective action, he appealed to everyone to develop the habit of carrying cloth or reusable bags and to consciously minimize the use of plastic in their daily lives.

Later in the day, a session on ‘Climate Change’ with a theme on Ending Global Plastic Pollution was held at the Gopabandhu Auditorium of RSP. P K Sahoo, CGM (HR&L&D), Manas Rath, CGM (HR) and P C Dash were present on the dais. Mr. P C Dash took a two-hour session on the topic which was attended by around 130 employees and executives of the plant. The session was coordinated by Divya Sahu, Assistant Manager (HR).
