New Delhi (National Desk): A video is going viral on social media these days in which a group of men can be seen playing cards inside the plane. But their ‘entertainment’ did not go down well with internet users, as they called it a tampering with the convenience and safety of common passengers. People have strongly criticized these passengers regarding the video and called this act inside the plane an example of ‘lack of civic responsibility’.
In this viral video, it was seen that a group of men tied a shawl to four seats, temporarily covering the aisle of the plane. In this way, they made the aisle like a swing or table and started playing cards. This video was first shared on Instagram in the month of May, but now a debate has started about it. The video was shared by a user named @mahaveergandhi, who wrote a thoughtful caption related to the card game, “Gambling is not about how well you play the game; it’s actually about how well you handle your money.” But most social media users were not impressed by this exciting ‘card session’.
Netizens’ sharp reactions
One user angrily wrote, “How insensitive these people are towards other passengers. Zero civic sense. What if a passenger needs to go to the washroom?” Another user questioned whether there was no crew member present to stop such antics. “The biggest question is, was there no one to stop these people? Airline staff is usually very polite, but that doesn’t mean passengers get a free hand.”
One user wrote irritably, “Yaar stop this nonsense. Watch a movie, read a book or sleep. Let others rest too.” Someone linked this behaviour to the prestige of the country and wrote, “Without telling you that you are an ‘Indian’, you are showing that you are an Indian.” Another person wrote in a mixed tone of mockery and anger, “Hopefully DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) will ban them from flying for at least two years.”
Is discipline in flights an outdated idea now?
This video has given rise to a wide discussion online – are today’s passengers lacking basic etiquette and discipline while flying? Playing cards is not wrong, but has it become so difficult to take care of the convenience of others in a public place, that too in a limited space like inside an airplane?
This case has made it clear that nothing can remain hidden from the eyes of social media. A few minutes of ‘fun’ has now become a cause of embarrassment for these men on the internet.
Discipline in flight is not only the responsibility of the flight crew, it is also the responsibility of the passengers to take care of the comfort, safety and privacy of others. This incident points to the declining state of civil etiquette, which needs to be improved – not only through rules, but also through awareness.
