Greater Noida (Travel Desk): Churches are usually symbols of peace and spirituality – but a church located in northern Ethiopia is completely different from this traditional image. Located on a steep cliff, this church hanging in the air is not only a symbol of religious faith, but also tests human courage. This amazing place is called – Abuna Yamato Guh, also known as the world’s most dangerous church. Recently, a popular travel vlogger shared the thrilling experience of climbing and visiting this church on his Instagram. The video starts with the vlogger standing on the edge of the dangerous cliff. He was accompanied by some other adventurous travelers, who were trying to reach the church, crawling, climbing, holding their breath on the steep rocks.

He was guided in this dangerous journey by a priest wearing a white robe, who has been taking care of this place for years. Climbing through the cracks in the rock, they finally reached a cave-like structure where this historic church is located.

2,000-year-old spiritual wonder

This church is not only amazing in its structure, but its historical and religious depth is also amazing. The vlogger told that this church is a nearly 2,000-year-old Orthodox site, carved into a rock in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Inside the church, holy scriptures, 500-year-old Bibles, classical paintings painted on the walls and inscriptions carved on stones can be seen. The priest told that he inherited this service from his father, who climbed this hill daily for 40 years without fail.

Internet’s reaction: A confluence of devotion and shudder

This video quickly gained popularity on social media and has been viewed more than 19 million times so far. People praised both the vlogger’s courage and the priest’s devotion. One user said, “It’s absolutely amazing – the climb, the church and this priest – everything.” Another wrote, “I will be praying every step of the way up.” Someone else joked, “Can I climb it wearing slippers?”

While another aptly commented, “You pray on the way up, pray in the church and pray again on the way down.”
