New Delhi: Dr. A. K. Panda, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), visited the Company’s Odisha Group of Mines (OGOM) and Jharkhand Group of Mines (JGOM) on 26 June 2026 to review mining operations, interact with employees and assess the future roadmap of SAIL’s captive mines.
During the visit, Dr. Panda reviewed operations at the iron ore mines of Barsua, Taldih, Kalta, Bolani, Gua, Kiriburu and Meghahatuburu, where he appreciated employees for their commitment and stressed that safety must remain the highest priority in all mining activities.

The CMD later chaired a review meeting at the Learning & Development Centre, Kiriburu, with senior executives of JGOM and OGOM. Discussions focused on safety, production enhancement, mine development, project execution, digital transformation and operational excellence.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Panda reiterated SAIL’s commitment to achieving 35 million tonnes of crude steel capacity by 2030-31, supported by 100 million tonnes of annual iron ore production from captive mines to support production level and need in the domestic market. He emphasized that strong mining operations are critical for raw material security, cost competitiveness and SAIL’s long-term growth.

Highlighting SAIL’s target of achieving substantial growth in Profit, he said efficient mining operations, optimum resource utilization and increase in iron ore would contribute significantly towards this goal. He also called for greater adoption of digital technologies, including AI, to enhance productivity, safety and sustainable mining practices.
The visit reaffirmed SAIL’s commitment to developing safe, technology-driven and sustainable mining operations that will support the Company’s expansion plans and contribute to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
