Jay Shah Positions himself as President of Asian Cricket Council when he took charge as chairperson of the International Cricket Council. Local executive board had chosen him as their new chairman on December 1 day after he stepped down as ACC president.
BCCI officials were formally accredited to the positions by the Board of Control for Cricket in India three months ago but were announced on Friday March 7.
BCCI Vice-President and former Board member Rajeev Shukla will be an Executive Board member of the ACC under the board.
BCCI is not quiet and makes this absolute statement regarding the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Board of Directors. Mr. Jay Shah’s ACC Board stayed vacant as he took over as ICC Chairman by taking over the same role for himself.
A BCCI statement states that Mr. Shah takes over as ACC President.
BCCI Board of Administration member Mr. Rajeev Shukla is the Bureau Representative to the ACC Board. In the media statement, it has been claimed that ex-officio board member Mr. Ashish Shelar is the BCCI representative to the ACC Board.
Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva stepped down willingly from the duty of the new ACC president.
The new ACC finance and marketing committee also assigned him as the chairperson for it.
With the new committee, this September Sri Lanka is hosting the Asia Cup.
India was supposed to stage the tournament but one of the opening match would involve a tour of Pakistan into India that can only happen if changed. The tournament would be needed to shift the location for hosting either in the UAE or in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka had taken various matches of the Asia Cup lately for which rain-out matches took place because of which the UAE needs to be faulted.
It was answered as follows by BCCI in a statement: “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) anticipates one step beyond its representation within the Board of Directors of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).”
“For Mr. Shah Jay, Chair, International Cricket Council (ICC), his second term as member of the ACC Board is in question. He is Ex-President, ACC. Mr. Rajeev Shukla would be the BCCI nominee as the Executive Board Member of the ACC Board. The BCCI nominee for the ACC Board as Ex-Officio Board Member would be Mr. Ashish Shelar.”
“On behalf of Office Bearers and Apex Council of the BCCI, It is our pleasure to invite them both for a golden term as the ACC works together to develop, build and strengthen the game of cricket in the Asian region,” was the valedictory broadside.
