Greater Noida (Business Desk): A professional talk on “Steel Technologies: Challenges Ahead” was organized on 9th May 2025 by the Learning and Development Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant. The keynote speaker for the event was Mr. A. S. Mathur, former Executive Director In-charge of RDCIS, who shared deep insights into the evolving landscape of the steel industry. Mr. P. K. Sahoo, Chief General Manager (HR–L&D), also graced the occasion and shared the dais.
In his address, Mr. Mathur highlighted the pressing challenges faced by the steel sector as it moves toward sustainability and technological transformation. He emphasized the global shift towards green steel production through hydrogen-based DRI and electric arc furnaces, while acknowledging the associated infrastructure and cost challenges. He also touched upon critical issues such as scrap utilization, circular economy adoption, raw material dependency, and geopolitical risks affecting supply chains. Furthermore, Mr. Mathur stressed the growing importance of digitalization in steel manufacturing through AI, IoT, and automation, along with the need for a skilled workforce to meet future demands. Topics like high-strength steel development, environmental compliance, and market overcapacity were also discussed in detail, offering a comprehensive view of the road ahead for the industry.
