New Delhi (National Desk): A student from the Indian School of Business (ISB) expressed her dissatisfaction after ordering a dish at Virat Kohli’s restaurant, One8 Commune, for ₹525 (exclusive of taxes). Sneha, the customer, shared her experience on social media, revealing her disappointment at what she perceived as an overpriced and underwhelming serving.
Sneha posted a picture on X (formerly Twitter), showing a plate of corn slices, garnished with dipping sauce and scallions, which she felt did not match the high price. She captioned the post, “Paid ₹525 for this at One8 Commune today,” accompanied by a photo of the dish. The dish, which appeared to be just a few pieces of corn artfully arranged, left her feeling dissatisfied given its cost.
Viral Post Sparks Debate
Her post quickly went viral, garnering a million views, along with numerous comments and reactions. While some users ridiculed her for spending so much on such a simple dish, others defended the restaurant’s pricing strategy, suggesting that high-end restaurants charge more for the overall dining experience rather than the ingredients alone.
One user wrote, “You knew this before ordering, so stop complaining.” Another chimed in, saying, “The money is for the ambiance, service, and cleanliness. It’s for the comfortable chairs, the rich-looking people around, and the fine crockery,” while pointing out that the same dish could be bought at a fraction of the price from a roadside vendor.
Criticism of the Restaurant’s Pricing and Experience
However, several users criticized the restaurant, calling it overrated. One user commented, “You paid for the ‘community’ One8 has created. It’s an overrated restaurant. People here, the music, the ambiance, high rent, and above-average staff salaries all contribute to the inflated prices.” Another user shared their personal experience, stating, “I didn’t like the place at all. First, they had a problem with Birkenstock slippers. Secondly, every dish we tried was disappointing. The price was not justified for the product.”
Concerns Over Service Charge
Further, one user raised concerns about the service charge, saying, “It’s the only place where I was made to feel guilty about paying the service charge. I have no issue with service charges, but it should be voluntary.”
