New Delhi: State-owned mining company NMDC has unearthed a 13.16-carat gem-quality natural rough diamond at its Diamond Mining Project (DMP) in Panna, Madhya Pradesh. The discovery marks the largest gem-category diamond found since the mine resumed operations in March 2024, surpassing the previous highest recovery of a 10.04-carat diamond.
NMDC informed on X, “NMDC’s Diamond Mining Project (DMP), India’s only organized and mechanized diamond mine has unearthed a 13.16-carat Gem Quality natural rough diamond, the biggest GEM category diamond discovered since the resumption of operations in March 2024, surpassing the previous highest of 10.04 carats.”
“Recovered through the routine processing of kimberlite ore, this remarkable discovery is a testament to the dedication, precision and operational excellence of the DMP Panna team. It reinforces NMDC’s commitment to responsible mining, technological excellence and unlocking India’s natural wealth with sustainability at its core,” NMDC added.
