Greater Noida (National Desk): The Karnataka government may implement Rohith Vemula Act to protect Dalit, Adivasi and OBC students in the state. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday informed on social media platform ‘X’ that he has written a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requesting him to implement this act in Karnataka.
The Congress party proposed in 2023 that if they come back to power, it would enact Rohith Vemula Act to protect the dignity of Dalits, tribal, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minorities students in the educational institutions.
Dalit Research Scholar Rohith Vemula died by suicide over alleged caste discrimination in University of Hyderabad in 2016.
Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, “I have written a letter to Siddaramaiah ji requesting him to implement the Rohith Vemula Act in Karnataka. No child in India should have to face the casteism that Babasaheb Ambedkar, Rohith Vemula and crores of people have faced.”

He further wrote, “Recently, I met students and teachers from Dalit, Adivasi and OBC communities in Parliament. During the conversation, they told me how they face caste-based discrimination in colleges and universities.
Babasaheb Ambedkar had guided that education is the only means by which even the deprived can become empowered and break the caste system. But it is very unfortunate that even after decades, lakhs of students are facing caste discrimination in our education system.”
“This discrimination has taken the lives of promising students like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki. Such horrific incidents cannot be tolerated at any cost. Now is the time to put a complete stop to this injustice,” the congress leader added.
