Greater Noida (National Desk), December 19: Amid growing anticipation for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, a flurry of rumors about free train travel for pilgrims has been making rounds on social media and some media outlets. However, the Ministry of Railways has categorically denied these claims, terming them as “baseless” and “misleading.”
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Railways clarified, “It has come to the attention of Indian Railways that certain media outlets are circulating reports claiming that passengers will be allowed to travel free of cost during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Indian Railways categorically denies these reports, as they are entirely baseless and misleading.”
No Free Rides, Only Better Facilities.
The Railways emphasized that there are no provisions for free travel during the Maha Kumbh Mela or any other occasion. Traveling without a valid ticket remains strictly prohibited under Indian Railways rules, and violators will face penalties as per the law.
Instead of providing free travel, the railways are focusing on enhancing passenger facilities to ensure seamless travel during massive religious events. According to the statement, “Adequate arrangements are being made, including the establishment of special holding areas, additional ticket counters, and other necessary facilities to manage the anticipated influx of passengers.”
This proactive approach aims to accommodate the millions of devotees expected to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela while maintaining order and safety.
The Importance of Ticketing Rules
Indian Railways, the lifeline of the nation, plays a crucial role during large-scale events like the Maha Kumbh. With the sheer volume of passengers expected, ticketing rules are vital to ensure fairness and operational efficiency. By squashing rumors of free travel, the Railways aims to prevent potential confusion and overcrowding on trains.
The Ministry also urged the public to rely only on official announcements and refrain from spreading unverified information.
Enhancing Pilgrim Experience
Though train travel is free, the railways still continue with perfection to make the Maha Kumbh Mela the best experience for pilgrims. A special train, extra coaches, and real-time ticketing updates were all part of the preparations. The focus is still on improvements in facilities, setting up temporary shelters, and deployment of additional staff to help passengers at the main stations.
The Railway’s suggestion for the Maha Kumbh visitors is simple: book your tickets ahead of time and travel responsibly.
