New Delhi (Nilesh Tiwari): The Indian cricket team faces significant setbacks since their top player incurred a sharp finger injury prior to the Champions Trophy.
Team India suffered a major blow before the Champions Trophy when Sanju Samson suffered a finger fracture after Jofra Archer hit him with a fierce delivery during the fifth T20 International match between India and England at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on February 2. The finger fracture affected the batter during the match.
Recent reports confirm that his recovery time exceeds one month. Sanju Samson suffered his injury right before India conducted the Champions Trophy followed by the ODI series against England.
The current games do not have available slots for him to participate. His participation ended at T20I level against England because of illness that kept him out of the prestigious Ranji Trophy elimination.
After finishing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy Samson returned to his native town Thiruvananthapuram. Before returning to competitive cricket Samson must gain clearance by the NCA which demonstrates the extreme seriousness of his injury and the thorough caution applied throughout his treatment.
A medical examination shows Samson has broken his dominant right index finger. Professional net practice remains out of reach for him during a five to six week recovery period.
His participation in the Kerala cricket team’s quarterfinal match against J&K in Pune during February 8–12 is not possible because of the healing time needed for his right index finger. According to a BCCI source reported by PTI the future return of Samson will most likely occur via IPL play for Rajasthan Royals.
The present performance levels of Sanju Samson show instability. Samson remains outside the present ODI team while his recent performances in the T20I series versus England were entirely negative. Sanju Samson received an Archer-delivered ball that struck him in the finger during the fifth T20I.
Samson knocked a six and a four after his hit but his finger became much bigger while returning to the dugout. The medical tests revealed the worst when he suffered a fracture on top of the existing difficulties.
After providing a remarkable performance with three hundreds from seven matches against South Africa and Bangladesh Samson gained selection for the T20I tournament. Samson did not make it to the Champions Trophy team even though he failed to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before squad selection.
