Greater Noida (National Desk), December 07: The Bharatiya Janata Party preferred Devendra Fadnavis over Eknath Shinde as Maharashtra Chief Minister after winning the Assembly Elections 2024. This decision raised many questions among scholars and politicians. Some people say that Devendra Fadnavis was chosen because of his loyalty to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, his beliefs regarding the RSS can be re-examined.
When Bharat Neeti Media reviewed his X (formerly known as Twitter) profile, it found that Devendra Fadnavis identified himself as ‘Ram Sevak,’ ‘Kar Sevak,’ and ‘Maharashtra’s Sevak,’ but he does not mention ‘Bharat Sevak’ or any phrase that reflects patriotism or nationalism. The second and most important observation is noteworthy. If you go through his posts on X, in most cases, he either uses Marathi or English.
When we analyzed his posts on X today (December 07, 2024, over the last 23 hours), we found that he had written a total of 30 posts, of which only 6 were in Hindi. This is significant as the BJP has always advocated for the use of Hindi. Most BJP leaders also prefer writing or speaking in Hindi.
The BJP promotes the idea of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and discourages regionalism in the country.
So, why does Devendra Fadnavis prefer Marathi over Hindi? This can be explained from a certain perspective. He may want to satisfy Marathi nationalism rather than emphasize a national identity, or he may have an agenda to take the Shiv Sena’s place in Maharashtra. Regionalism and Marathi identity are very much strong in Maharashtra.
He took office as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on December 5, 2024. Prior to this, he served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in the Eknath Shinde-led government, working alongside Ajit Pawar. He was an active member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
