In a long, 12-year gap, cricketing sensation Virat Kohli will once again be in focus when he returns to play Ranji Trophy match . Virat Kohli, who is in preparation for a comeback to the Ranji Trophy, will now start on 30 January. He will join Delhi in order to face off against Railways.
Virat Kohli’s batting position in the much-talked-about game has been disclosed by Delhi skipper Ayush Badoni ahead of the game against Railways. Kohli will bat at number four in his Ranji Trophy comeback game against Railways on Thursday, January 30, according to confirmation from Badoni.
He is making a comeback after a 12-year break to the Delhi squad, looking for his former glory after a lackluster performance in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
There were questions regarding Kohli’s future in the longest format after his previous troubles in Australia, where he amassed 190 runs in 9 innings and was removed eight times for deliveries outside the off-stump.
Regulars for the Indian side, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, have also gone back to the Ranji Trophy, so Kohli decided to do the same in a bid to regain his form. Kohli has been working hard at his backfoot shots during his intense training sessions since joining the Delhi squad.
“He will bat at No. 4. He has told us to be positive and express ourselves confidently. I have played against Virat bhaiyya in the IPL. It is an honour that in back to back matches I have now led Rishabh and Virat bhaiyya,” Ayush Badoni said, as quoted by PTI.
Kohli’s Ranji Trophy career spanned a long period from his debut in November 2006 until his last match in 2012. At a time when he had not yet exploded on the Test cricket scene, this great batsman was in his last match for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy season of 2012–13.
In the single match, Delhi faced Uttar Pradesh at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Ghaziabad, which is close to his hometown. Kohli’s side lost by six wickets but he contributed with 14 and 43 runs in the two innings of the match.
Four other India internationals were in the Delhi squad at the time: Ashish Nehra, Virender Sehwag, Ishant Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir, who is currently India’s head coach.
