New Delhi (National Desk): A social media user has claimed that the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT helped save his life by telling him the treatment of a life-threatening disease. The unnamed user shared his story on Reddit, saying that he did a light workout a few days ago, but started having severe pain throughout the body. Confused about the sudden deterioration in health, he consulted ChatGPT, who advised him to seek medical treatment immediately.

He wrote in the post, “I told ChatGPT my symptoms and it advised me to go to the hospital immediately, as my symptoms were associated with moderate to severe rhabdomyolysis.” Rhabdomyolysis is a serious disease in which damaged muscle tissue breaks down rapidly, leading to many problems like kidney damage, metabolic acidosis and electrolyte imbalance. If left untreated, it can also cause death. Acting on the suggestion from ChatGPT, the man went to the hospital and got tested, which came back positive for rhabdomyolysis. “They did lab tests and found out I had severe rhabdomyolysis. I had to stay in the hospital for a week, had IVs constantly and was monitored. I also used ChatGPT to analyze my lab results, which were on par with what the medical team was saying. Because of the analysis done by ChatGPT, I knew what was happening before the doctor did.”
Post went viral instantly
The post went viral instantly, drawing the attention of social media users around the world, who also shared their own stories of the AI chatbot helping them with treatment. “Glad for you you’re okay now. And yes ChatGPT is great with details like this,” said one user, while another added: “I’m glad it caught your condition in time. I can also recommend uploading pictures of medical notes to ChatGPT.” A third commented: “This is how GPT should be used for medical advice. You describe some symptoms and then talk to a professional doctor about it. This is a far cry from WebMD telling you it’s cancer every 5 minutes.”
Chatbot identified fracture
Last week, a woman claimed that Elon Musk’s chatbot, Grok, successfully identified her daughter’s fracture after medical professionals couldn’t diagnose it. The woman, named AJ, revealed that her daughter was injured in a bad car accident, but doctors at the emergency care center concluded there was no fracture, sending her home with painkillers and an ace wrap. Not satisfied with their answer, Ms K contacted Grok and asked the AI chatbot to analyse her daughter’s X-rays. She later sought a second opinion from a wrist specialist, who confirmed Grok’s diagnosis: a distal radial head fracture with dorsal displacement. The specialist warned that delayed treatment could have led to the need for surgery, but thanks to Grok’s intervention, they were able to avoid this outcome and provide timely treatment.
