Greater Noida (National Desk): Sikkim, a small but extremely beautiful state in the north-east of India, is once again in the news for its cleanliness, civic discipline and peaceful environment. This time, it was a vlogger’s video in which he described Sikkim as “another country even though it is a part of India” – and that too as a compliment.

The tourist and vlogger from Haryana said in a video shared on Instagram, “I have come to a neighbouring country called Sikkim. And why do I call it a neighbouring country? Because ever since I have come here, I don’t feel like I am in India.” His comment was not about any cultural or political difference, but he said so after seeing the disciplined lifestyle, cleanliness and civic responsibility of the people of Sikkim.

European feel on MG Road

Gangtok’s Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Marg, which is a no-vehicle zone, was the main attraction in the vlogger’s video. Turning the camera around, he said, “Just look at the cleanliness… it feels like a road in a European country. People don’t throw anything here and there, no one even touches the flowers.” In the video, the man mentioned a scene he witnessed during the day and said, “There was a program going on for stray dogs at one place. I have never seen anything like this before. It shows that here, along with humans, animal care is also given importance.”

An organic, disciplined state

Sikkim is India’s least populated and second smallest state, but it is an example for the entire country in terms of civic management and natural conservation. In 2016, it became the country’s first fully organic state, where chemical fertilizers and pesticides are completely banned.

There is a strict ban and penalty on littering, spitting in public places and smoking. This is why it is almost impossible to find dirt on the streets of Sikkim.

“Visa-free paradise”

The tourist wrote in his caption, “I feel like I have arrived in a beautiful, visa-free country! People are so polite, welcoming and responsible.” The comment may have been emotional, but it gives an idea of the depth of Sikkim’s social consciousness and environmental commitment. This image of Sikkim is becoming an inspiration for other states of the country on how even a small state can bring big changes. This vlogger’s video is not just an experience but an appeal – that if we want, we can all together make our cities as clean, disciplined and environmentally conscious as Sikkim.

Sikkim is special not only for its natural beauty but also because of its aware citizens and strong administrative approach. The vlogger’s reaction may have been emotional, but one thing is for sure: Sikkim has deeply impacted him—and now, through social media, many others across the country.
