Nine years ago, a US citizen started his new life in India after he got frustrated with inflation and the high cost of living. Miles Mentor founder Elliot Rosenberg shared about his journey and the important financial decisions he made in life that not only changed his financial outlook but also gave a new turn to his quality of life. Elliott Rosenberg explained in a LinkedIn post that 12 years ago he made an important financial decision that changed his life forever. He said that most personal finance experts recommend that we should budget our expenses, invest and generate multiple sources of income. Financial freedom and early retirement can be achieved through this.
However, despite all this, Elliot was facing a major problem while living in the US – inflation. He wrote, “Inflation is bad, but ‘lifestyle fluctuations’ are even worse.” He was concerned about the social pressures that forced him to spend on things like fancy restaurants, concerts, and shopping to stay connected with his friends and society. This pressure eventually made him decide to leave the US.
Leaving the US and starting a foreign trip
Elliott began traveling first to Brazil and then to other South Asian countries. During the trip, he understood different cultures and looked for a change in his lifestyle. However, he eventually decided to stay in India as India seemed to be a better option in terms of inflation. After coming to India, Elliot’s life took a new direction. He married a local woman in Goa, learned Hindi, and started his life afresh. Elliot said that after settling in India, he started two businesses and found stability in life. He now lives close to his wife’s family and is balancing every aspect of life.
Comfortable life at low cost
Elliott also shared that he is living his life very comfortably while living in India, and his monthly expenses are less than ₹1 lakh. This expense includes his family, house, food expenses and other essential expenses. He said that his lifestyle has changed a lot after living in India. While he used to feel stressed due to inflation and social pressures in the US, now he is living a satisfied and peaceful life in India.
