New Delhi. Brian Johnson, the renowned American entrepreneur famous for his anti-aging efforts, has once again highlighted the air pollution crisis in India. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Johnson shared valuable tips to combat pollution, emphasizing that solving air pollution in India would have a far greater impact on increasing life expectancy than cancer treatment. Along with his post, Johnson also shared a video featuring his associate, who accompanied him on his recent trip to India, offering practical solutions for dealing with air pollution, such as using air purifiers.
In the video, Johnson’s associate discussed the measures they took during their visit to Mumbai to mitigate the effects of the city’s poor air quality. The associate explained how they used a portable device to monitor air quality and opted to spend time in their hotel room rather than the gym, as the air quality in the latter was found to be poor. To further reduce the impact of pollution, they kept the car windows closed, used air conditioning in the hotel room to circulate air, and wore N96 masks when stepping outside. Additionally, the associate carried portable air filters everywhere they went to ensure access to clean air.
In his tweet, Johnson emphasized that “India can save more years of life by solving air pollution than by curing cancer,” highlighting the need for action to address the country’s pollution crisis.
Mixed Reactions: Praise and Criticism
While many users appreciated Johnson’s helpful tips and advice, others found some of his suggestions—like carrying portable air purifiers—excessive and impractical.
One user commented, “Here’s my small updated version of your advice:
- The government should make it mandatory for all corporations/companies to have air filters installed.
- Run more awareness campaigns on the use of masks. It won’t be ideal, but it could bring about some change.
- Use taxpayer money to plant more trees, water them, and maintain them properly.
- Increase subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce their costs.”
Another user wrote, “I hope this message reaches enough people and that they start taking it seriously. I don’t think people in India care much about pollution… Breathing clean air should be a human right!! But it’s becoming a privilege.”
Air Pollution Crisis in India: A Growing Concern
Air pollution has become a significant health threat in India, especially in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, where air quality often reaches hazardous levels, particularly in the winter months. High levels of air pollution are linked to respiratory diseases, heart conditions, and an increased burden on the healthcare system. While there have been several initiatives by the government to tackle pollution, experts argue that individual actions, such as those suggested by Brian Johnson, are also crucial. Johnson’s suggestions to monitor air quality, wear masks, and use portable air purifiers are some of the practical measures people can take to mitigate the harmful effects of pollution in their daily lives.
