Greater Noida (Political Desk), December 08: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday criticised Uttar Pradesh government for invoking Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) for its employees. Under ESMA, UP government employees in all state government departments, corporations and authorities have been banned to participate in any strikes for a period of six months.
Akhilesh Yadav wrote on social media website X, “This order of the UP government itself is a reflection of the worsening conditions in UP that for the next 6 months, strikes will be banned under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). The truth is that BJP knows how to form a government through manipulation and rigging but not how to run a government due to corrupt conduct and thinking. The government which is imposing restrictions on its own subordinates, this simply means that it is accepting that the dormant volcano of protest and resentment among the employees and officers can erupt anytime.”
He further wrote, “The reality is that people working in various departments and government and semi-government institutions and establishments not only in Uttar Pradesh but all over the country are being forced to become a part of the BJP’s corrupt policies and corruption, due to which discontent is growing among them, which will emerge as a strike tomorrow, this is the fear because of which this order has been passed. BJP is a scared government.”
According to the UP government sources, the decision was taken in the view of upcoming Maha Kumbh in Allahabad. Releasing a notification, UP government said, “In exercise of the powers under sub section (1) of the section-3 of the Uttar Pradesh Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1966 (U.P. Act No. 30 of 1966), the State government prohibited strike for a period of six months from the date of the notification.”
