New Delhi (Staff Correspondent): India’s Adani Group has reportedly stopped supplying electricity to Bangladesh from its power plant in Jharkhand over the issue of unpaid dues.
As per the media reports, the dues have mounted to 846 million US dollars and the company has also written a letter to Bangladeshi authorities asking to clear the pending payment by 30 October 2024. But the timeline was crossed and Adani Group stopped power supply to the neighbouring country.
Adani Power Limited (APL) commissioned its first 800 MW ultra-super-critical thermal power generation unit located at Godda in Jharkhand in April 2023, and began supplying 748 MW of power to neighbouring Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Adani PowerJharkhand Ltd (APJL) — a subsidiary of Adani Power — in 2017 executed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to procure 1,496 MW net capacity power from a 2X800 MW ultra-supercritical power project at Godda.
