Greater Noida: As part of its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development, the Department of Chemistry, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, organized a Tree Plantation Drive in anticipation of World Environment Day and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign. On this occasion, a total of 31 Rudraksha and Bottle Palm saplings were planted on the university campus. The plantation drive was led by Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Haryana, along with Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Suneel Kumar, Registrar, who planted saplings and encouraged the University community to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar emphasized that environmental protection and conservation are among the core priorities of the University. He stated that Central University of Haryana remains committed to promoting a green and sustainable campus and actively observes World Environment Day every year on 5 June through various awareness and plantation activities. He further informed that the University has recently initiated the development of a Miyawaki dense forest on the campus, which will significantly contribute to biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, and ecological sustainability.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor said that that environmental protection is no longer merely an option but a collective responsibility of society. He emphasized that World Environment Day serves as a reminder of our duties towards preserving nature and safeguarding the environment. Initiatives such as the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign connect environmental conservation with emotional and social values, inspiring greater public participation. He further remarked that tree plantation not only helps maintain ecological balance but also serves as a powerful means of ensuring a clean, green, and healthy environment for future generations.
The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, students, and non-teaching staff of the Department of Chemistry. Prof. Rakesh Bhardwaj adjunct prof, chemistry donated the plants for the initiative. Distinguished dignitaries present during the event included Prof. Pawan Kumar Maurya, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. Surender Singh, Director, IQAC; Prof. Rupesh Deshmukh, Head, Department of Biotechnology; Prof. Vipan Kumar Parihar, Department of Pharmacy Sciences; Prof. Vinod Kumar, Prof. Ranbir Singh; Dr. Vikas Siwach; Prof. Umesh; along with teaching and non-teaching staff members from various departments of the University. The event concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to contribute towards environmental protection, afforestation, and the creation of a greener and healthier future for coming generations.
