CSSR-Sponsored Three-Day Workshop on ‘Research Tool Development in Humanities and Social Sciences’ Concludes Successfully at Central University of Haryana

New Delhi: The Department of Teacher Education, Central University of Haryana successfully concluded the three-day workshop on “Research Tool Development in Humanities and Social Sciences” on 23 May 2026 at Academic Block-IV under the ICSSR-sponsored longitudinal research project. The workshop was organized from 21st to 23rd May 2026 in offline mode and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and project staff from various institutions.

The workshop aimed at enhancing research competencies related to the development, standardization, and validation of research tools in humanities and social sciences. Throughout the three days, participants were exposed to both theoretical and practical dimensions of research tool construction through expert lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities.

Following the inaugural session on the first day, which was initiated by Vice Chancellor of university and Chief-Patron of program Prof. (Dr.) Tankeshwar Kumar, the first technical session was conducted by renowned academician Prof. Kaushal Kishore, who provided detailed guidance on the construction of achievement tests. He explained the systematic process involved in designing achievement tools, including item writing, blueprint preparation, and validation procedures. The second session focused on the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in research tool development, where participants learned about the integration of digital technologies in research practices and tool standardization.

The first day concluded with practical activities in which all participants actively engaged in constructing achievement test tools under expert supervision. The session was conducted in the special presence of Prof. Nand Kishore, whose interaction and guidance motivated the participants toward scientific and authentic research practices.

The second day of the workshop featured highly interactive and knowledge-enriching technical sessions by eminent experts. Dr. Harish Pandey delivered a comprehensive lecture on the development of rating scales and item construction using the Likert Scale method. His session provided participants with practical understanding of scale construction techniques and methods of ensuring reliability and validity.

The second technical session of the day was conducted by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, who elaborated on Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and interview techniques used in qualitative research. He discussed various approaches to conducting interviews and collecting qualitative data effectively. The day concluded with collaborative group activities in which participants designed and developed five-point Likert scales based on different research themes.

The third and final day of the workshop was marked by energetic participation, collaborative activities, and presentation of research tools developed by the participants during the workshop. Various practical exercises and discussions were conducted in the presence of project directors and guest faculty members, including Dr. Nidhi Bagaria and another guest Dr. Devraj Singh, one of the Project Directors of the ICSSR-funded project.

The valedictory session was addressed by Dr. Devender Kumar, Project Coordinator of the workshop, who highlighted the significance of research tool development in conducting quality social science research and expressed gratitude to all experts, participants, and organizing members for their valuable contribution.

The Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony, Prof. Suneel Kumar, Registrar of Central University of Haryana, appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and emphasized the need for rigorous and ethically grounded research practices in higher education. Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean Research, also addressed the gathering and encouraged participants to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in future research endeavours.

Certificates were distributed to all participants during the valedictory programme. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Project Director Dr. Anil Kumar, who acknowledged the contribution of all dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, participants, and supporting staff in making the workshop successful.

The workshop concluded on a highly positive note and proved to be immensely beneficial in strengthening the practical research skills of the participants, particularly in the area of research tool development and standardization in humanities and social sciences.
