Greater Noida: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has successfully established well control at Well Mori-5, completing the capping operation in a record time of five days, marking a significant achievement in blowout response and operational excellence.
The blowout occurred on 5 January 2026 during service operations at the well by PEC contractor M/s Deep Industries Limited. ONGC immediately activated its in-house Crisis Management framework and deployed specialised manpower and equipment to ensure rapid and safe containment of the situation.
With the successful establishment of well control, this press release marks the final official communication on the Mori-5 incident, formally concluding field-level updates related to the operation.
ONGC conveys its sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), the State and District Administration, and the local administration and community for their cooperation and support, which were vital to the safe and timely resolution of the incident. ONGC respectfully acknowledges the steadfast support of Shri Harish Balyogi, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Amlapuram, whose continued presence at the site through the night provided reassurance and strength during the operation. The Corporation also places on record its appreciation for Shri D. Varaprasad, Hon’ble MLA from Razole, and the District Administration of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District, especially Dr. Mahesh Kumar Ravirala, IAS, District Collector, and Shri Rahul Meena, IPS, Superintendent of Police, for their guidance, cooperation, and sustained on-ground coordination, which significantly contributed to the successful and timely completion of the operation.
