Greater Noida (National Desk):Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed immense pride over the inclusion of the Maratha Military Landscapes of India in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List. The newly inscribed heritage sites comprise 12 historic forts, 11 located in Maharashtra and 1 in Tamil Nadu reflecting the military excellence and cultural legacy of the Maratha Empire.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the Prime Minister celebrated this global recognition and emphasized the significance of the Maratha rulers. “When we speak of the glorious Maratha Empire, we associate it with good governance, military strength, cultural pride, and emphasis on social welfare. The great rulers inspire us with their refusal to bow to any injustice,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister urged citizens, especially the younger generation, to visit these forts and immerse themselves in the rich history and valor of the Maratha Empire. Highlighting his personal connection, PM Modi recalled his 2014 visit to the iconic Raigad Fort, where he paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He also shared a photograph from that visit, calling it a cherished memory.
Responding to UNESCO’s official post announcing the inscription, PM Modi stated, “Every Indian is elated with this recognition. These ‘Maratha Military Landscapes’ are a matter of great pride for our nation.”
The inclusion of these forts in the World Heritage List not only honors the architectural and historical brilliance of the Maratha era but also boosts India’s cultural footprint on the global stage.
