New Delhi (Staff Correspondent): Delhi University student’s Bisma Farid is once again in the news. Bisma, who is studying English Honours from Hansraj College, recently shared an emotional and bold post on LinkedIn, in which she directly challenged the stereotypes prevalent in the society towards the students of Arts stream. Earlier, she had shared in a post that despite being a topper and all the achievements, she faced difficulties in getting an internship. Now, after that post went viral, she has given her frank opinion on conservative thinking and discrimination.

“I am a topper, still not getting an internship”

Bisma’s first post went viral when CBSE declared the results of class 12th. In the post, she wrote, “I am a topper, and I am not able to get an internship.” She also admitted that it took her time to understand that good marks alone are not enough – skills matter more in today’s times.

“Why did you take Arts?” – Sharp questions from society

In her second post, Bisma revealed that she received hundreds of comments and messages after the first post – some inspiring and some hurtful.

She was asked, “If you are a topper, why did you take Arts?”

“If you were so talented, why did you do BA?”

“Who gives jobs to BA people?”

Taking a dig at these comments, Bisma wrote, “I would like to thank these ‘big course, science, B.Tech people’ who are reinforcing the already existing stereotypes.”

“Arts is a choice, not a compulsion”

“Not everyone is interested in numbers, anatomy or coding. Some people believe in creative expression, independent thinking and a critical approach. Arts students are also adept at empathy, problem-solving and innovation,” Bisma wrote. She also added that the world needs diverse perspectives, and arts students bring that diversity to the ground.

“Be proud of your stream”

At the end of her post, Bisma gave a message to all arts students: “Your choice of stream is valid and your contribution is valuable to society. Don’t make anyone feel inferior.” She also added, “The world needs a balance of skills, perspectives and creativity. Let us celebrate our differences and move towards an inclusive education and society.” Widespread response on social media

Several users shared their stories on Bisma’s post. One user wrote, “I topped in coding but chose design because that’s my passion.” Another said, “Every course has its own effort and value. There is no such thing as a ‘big’ and ‘small’ course.” Bisma Farid’s post once again proves that art, creativity, and human perspective are the foundation of any society—and ignoring them is limiting oneself.
