Greater Noida (National Desk): Indian roads are full of adventures, but when the adventure is with wild elephants, things can get serious. Recently, a video clip of Canadian travel vlogger Nolan Saumure has gone viral, in which he comes face to face with a wild elephant while riding a scooter in a dense forest in India. The encounter was as dangerous as it was funny — especially when Saumure says to the elephant, “Why are you resting on the road, sir?”
In the video, Saumure can be seen traveling peacefully on his scooter, when suddenly a huge wild elephant appears on the side of the road. The elephant is standing comfortably, but Saumure’s comment and the events that follow give the video an unexpected twist. Things get worse when another scooter rider arrives there. He hesitates on seeing the elephant and stops at a distance. This stopping upsets the elephant, and it turns aggressively and charges forward. The other rider, frightened, immediately turns his scooter around and flees.
“You shouldn’t have stopped” – vlogger’s advice
Saumure’s voice can be heard from behind the camera in the background: “You don’t have to stop.” He believes the elephant reacted to the sudden stop, startling it. The panicked scooter rider later responds: “Nobody instructed me to do that.” This brief exchange clearly demonstrates the importance of knowledge and understanding in wildlife encounters.
Video goes viral, reactions pour in
Nolan jokingly captioned the video: “I almost got my friend killed by an elephant.”
The video sparked a flood of reactions as soon as it hit social media:
“Brother thought… the British are back and took matters into his own hands.”
“This is not a zoo, it’s their territory – get out quietly.”
“Your friend is very lucky to have survived.”
“The elephant must have been provoked… give them respect, they are strong but calm.”
The location of the video is not clear, but the scooter has a Uttar Pradesh number plate making the state a suspect area.
