New Delhi: Vedanta Power is nearing full commissioning of its 4,780 MW capacity portfolio, even as India’s total installed power capacity is projected to reach 1,121 GW by 2035, a senior company official said.
Speaking on the sidelines of Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO – Power, Vedanta Ltd, said electricity demand in the country is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.41 per cent between 2026 and 2035, driven by rising consumption from data centres, electric vehicles and industrial expansion.
He said the power sector would require investments of over ₹203 lakh crore over the next two decades across generation, transmission, distribution and energy storage to meet the growing demand.
Ahuja noted that the company has nearly doubled its operational capacity from 2,580 MW to over 4,100 MW within a year and is now approaching full commissioning of its 4,780 MW portfolio.
He described the current phase as an inflection point for the sector, with increasing demand necessitating grid modernisation to efficiently integrate intermittent renewable energy sources while maintaining reliability and energy security.
The company’s pavilion at the summit was inaugurated by Shripad Yesso Naik, who reviewed its clean energy initiatives and community-led programmes.
Vedanta Power also showcased its biomass-based energy initiatives in Punjab, which the company said have contributed to an estimated 87 per cent reduction in farm fires over the past two years, along with livelihood programmes for local communities.
The company presented technology-led installations at the event, including interactive digital displays on its operations, a kinetic energy demonstration and a virtual reality experience highlighting its stubble-to-energy initiatives in Punjab.
Vedanta Power said its participation at the summit reflects its focus on scaling operations in line with India’s growing energy demand while aligning with sustainability goals.
