Greater Noida (National Desk): Being a pioneer, Uttarakhand is the first state to venture into the wine production business. The booze project will be the next flagship product of Uttrakhand state and has the potential to turn Uttrkahand into one of the best wine tourism spots in India. The first wine, a total of 1000 crates, has been created in Kotdwarthat would serve as a sample for what might potentially develop into the new and vigorous winemaking industry.

Visitors to the facility can learn about the history of winemaking, observe the production process, and taste various wines. Guesthouses are being developed around the production units to provide tourists with a relaxing and immersive experience. These guesthouses will allow visitors to enjoy the region’s scenic beauty while participating in wine-tasting tours.

The Deputy Excise Commissioner, Prabha Shankar Mishra, underscored the overall purposes of this project. “This will improve investment, create jobs, and increase Uttarakhand’s attractiveness for tourism,” Mishra said. He also mentioned the state’s objective of wine tourism being a leading tourism attraction in the coming times.

The initiative also focuses on sustainable practices by utilizing the state’s abundant fruit resources. Uttarakhand’s orchards produce fruits like apples, pears, malta, burnish flowers, and galangal, all of which are suitable for winemaking. Using local produce ensures sustainability and creates new business opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs in the hilly regions.

The government is encouraging small and medium-sized wine production units to diversify the state’s economic landscape. Officials believe these units will support local communities while tapping into the potential of wine tourism. “This initiative benefits farmers and small-scale producers by creating new employment opportunities,” an Excise Department official said.

Wine tourism is not just about tasting wine—it’s an experience that combines education, culture, and leisure. The beautiful natural beauty of Uttarakhand is the main attraction for visitors. The idea is based on the success of wine tourism, which is a common thing in California, Chile, and South Africa.

The Kotdwar facility is just the beginning of this ambitious plan. New wine production units are being planned for Bageshwarand Champawat to expand the initiative across the state. These units will further strengthen Uttarakhand’s wine tourism sector and contribute to the local economy.

The government is confident that wine tourism will increase state revenue while diversifying its tourism portfolio. By combining agriculture, hospitality, and tourism, Uttarakhand is creating a unique model that benefits multiple sectors. This initiative is expected to attract both domestic and international visitors.

As Uttarakhand ventures into wine tourism, it is redefining its tourism industry with innovation and sustainability. The state’s efforts to integrate agriculture, local communities, and hospitality offer a promising future for its economy and culture.
