Greater Noida (National Desk): Manusmriti is an Indian textbook written in 1st to 3rd AD in Sanskrit. It is considered as a law book of Hindu community. Many Indians consider this book as sacred because it was written by a saint Manu, while others think that this book encouraged discrimination within the communities and gender in India.
The debate started on December 18 this year at India TV news program when anchor Meenakshi Joshi asked a question on Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks over Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar to panelist and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Priyanka Bharti. Priyanka Bharati went to tear up Manusmriti on the live television show by equating it as an anti-women textbook of India.
The TV debate transitioned into a Twitter debate. Responding to a user on X, Meenakshi Joshi wrote that she felt like slapping Priyanka Bharti for her actions regarding Manusmriti during that live TV broadcast show which was hosted by her. People started trolling Meenakshi Joshi for her controversial reply against Priyanka Bharti on X. Priyanka Bharti wrote on X, “when the nickname (Brahmin) dominated Meenakshi Joshi then she felt like slapping me! What would have happened if my Maurya dynasty had dominated me? I would have converted one lakh kantap (slapping) into compound interest and returned 100. Even the forefathers of his Bhu Dhatu do not have the courage to defy a Kushwaha’s daughter.”
