Greater Noida(Business Desk):Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the country’s largest steelmaker and a Maharatna PSU, has emerged as the leading steel supplier for the ambitious Zojila Tunnel project, currently under construction in the Himalayas.
SAIL has already supplied over 31,000 tonnes of steel, including TMT Re-bars, Structurals, and Plates, playing a vital role in the development of what will become India’s longest road tunnel and Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel once completed in 2027.
Strategically located at an altitude of 11,578 feet, the Zojila Tunnel spans more than 30 kilometers and is being constructed in extremely challenging terrain. It will provide crucial all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh, via Dras and Kargil. The project is a key part of the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway, enhancing both civilian and military mobility in the region.
SAIL’s consistent supply to the project reaffirms its commitment to nation-building and its reputation for delivering high-quality steel for mega-infrastructure ventures. The Zojila Tunnel is the latest addition to SAIL’s impressive portfolio, which includes contributions to iconic projects like the Chenab Railway Bridge, Atal Tunnel, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, and Bogibeel Bridge.
The tunnel is not just a strategic infrastructure initiative but also promises to boost the region’s economic development and connectivity, showcasing how SAIL continues to power India’s growth story.
