New Delhi (Defence Correspondent): When we talk of innovation in defence technologies, there are no boundaries so to say. From under water drones to automated machine guns, surveillance and lethal attack drones carrying payloads to missiles that know no bounds, global leaders in innovation and research have shown that technological advancements know no limits.
It is also known that countries have been talking of effectively raising an army of robots, who will fight the future wars on behalf of men, who only will require controlling them from a remote control and command centre.
Advancing towards such an age, India has come forward with a plan that may lead the world’s race for developing robotic fighters.
In a new video that recently surfaced on social media, showed a few Indian Army soldiers marching alongside a fleet of Robo-Dogs. These machines are referred to as dogs as they are lookalikes of dogs but in form of robots.

If army sources are to be believed, these robotic digs not only are equipped with cameras and sensors but also can match a dog’s capacity to detect danger and warn their human aides. Additionally these machines can also be used for delivering supplies to forward posts and navigating through challenging terrain.
They robo-dogs that were seen patrolling and marching along the army soldiers were being controlled using a remote.
What we are also hearing as that these dogs are not just a prototype but taking it to an advanced level, the Indian Army has also possibly inducted 100 such Robo-Dogs recently into their ranks.
If we talk of utility, these robots can easily enter potentially dangerous areas, gather intelligence as required with the help of mounted high definition cameras and sensors on them, and send in real-time images or information back to their operators.
Moreover, these Robo-Dogs are also capable of transporting not only goods but when required, aslo explosives to specific locations, specifically beyond enemy lines, including mine infested areas. They can also be used to carry explosives away from residential areas to secluded spots where such devices can then be dismantled. In this way they can be of great assistance to bomb detection and disposal units of the army as well of the police departments.
Inching closer to full usage of such robots, the Desert Corps of the Indian Army had already tested these machine canines last year during a military exercise. Other than assisting the soldiers during exercise in completing search and surveillance missions, these dogs also provided their potential in real-world scenarios.
It is beyond argument that such an addition to the Indian army’s fleet marks another milestone in Indian’s continuous efforts to merge valour and courage of humans with the unwavering preciseness of machines.
But this isn’t a first for the Indian army. It has had previously made advancements with drones for tasks like delivering supplies and dropping explosives. But with Robo-Dogs now in action, the Indian Army certainly has taken a big leap forward.
At a time when the world is chasing such technologies, India has not only tested but also inducted robo-dogs, which is another significant step towards enhancing its operational capabilities and at the same time providing tech solutions to the rest of the world.
