Pat Cummins will have an ankle scan after playing all five Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia’s head of selectors, George Bailey, has confirmed.
Cummins has already been rested from the Sri Lankan tour due to paternity leave, which he took while waiting for the birth of his second kid. It is presently unknown if he will be available for the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19.
Bailey on Pat Cummins – “Pat’s clearly out on paternity leave for the next little bit of time. There’s a wee bit to do. He’s got a little bit of a sore ankle as well, so I think in the next week or so, he’s got a scan coming, and we’ll get a wee bit more information around where that’s at.”
When asked if Cummins would take part in the eagerly awaited Champions Trophy, Bailey was cagey, saying only, “Not really sure yet.” We shall have to wait to see where that scan is tracking and where it returns.Cummins concluded the just ended Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the second-most successful bowler.
But besides Cummins, injury concerns for Australia also hover around their speed bowlers. Presently, both Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are not fit fully.
For the eagerly awaited Champions Trophy, the Australian team would expect that all the three speed bowlers are completely fit.
