The Padma Awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are among the highest civilian honors in India. Instituted in 1954, these awards recognize distinguished and exceptional service in a variety of fields such as Art, Literature, Education, Science, Medicine, Sports, Social Work, Public Affairs, and Industry, among others.
The Government of India is continuing its efforts to transform the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma” by encouraging participation from all sections of society. Citizens are urged to nominate deserving individuals, including those from marginalized communities, women, SC/ST, Divyang (differently-abled) persons, and those working selflessly at the grassroots level.
Government employees (including PSU staff), except doctors and scientists, are not eligible for these civilian awards.
Nominations must include all required details in the format available on the official portal and should also have a citation (maximum 800 words) highlighting the nominee’s achievements and contributions.
