New Delhi (Staff Correspondent):  Recently, IT services company Infosys fired more than 300 employees at its Mysore campus, most of whom were trainees. These employees were fired after failing internal assessments. However, the matter became more sensitive when these trainees were ordered to leave the campus after being fired, and some employees were not even allowed to stay overnight.

Ordered to leave campus, crying pleas unheard

A trainee shared with Moneycontrol that on February 7, when she and her colleagues were ordered to vacate the campus after being fired, a female colleague, who was also fired, started crying and pleading with the management for permission to stay overnight. The woman said that she did not know where she would go, and she only asked for permission to stay for one night so that she could leave the campus the next day. Despite this, the Infosys management turned a deaf ear to his plea and said, “You are no longer part of the company, vacate the premises by 6 pm.”

Employees sacked for failing assessment

According to sources, the employees sacked by Infosys had failed to clear the internal assessment at the Mysore campus. These employees were given three chances to clear the assessment, and the company sacked them after they failed all three times. Infosys clarified its policy in the matter, saying that it is mandatory for freshers to clear the internal assessment during training. “This is part of our recruitment process, which is also mentioned in their contract,” the company said in a statement.

Labour union protests

The IT employees’ union, NITES (National Indian Technologies Employees Union), has protested against the decision and has sought the labour ministry’s intervention in the matter. The union says the number of employees affected by these layoffs is very high, and has appealed for strict action against the company. Many employees affected by this layoff said that they had completed their graduation degree after receiving an offer letter from Infosys, and waited for two years to join the job. But now, after just a few months, they have been fired, making the situation extremely frustrating and difficult for them. Questions are being raised on Infosys regarding this layoff, and labor organizations are demanding action against the company, so that the rights of the affected employees can be protected in such cases.
