BEML Ltd. expresses its profound gratitude to the nation and to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for flagging off India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express from Malda Town, in the august presence of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology; Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Indian Railway Board, along with other distinguished dignitaries. The momentous occasion was witnessed by BEML’s senior leadership, including its CMD, Shantanu Roy. This historic event marks a significant milestone, heralding a new era in the evolution of Indian Railways.
BEML has been entrusted with the design and development of 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, underscoring the confidence placed in its rail engineering capabilities. BEML Ltd. also expresses its appreciation to Integral Coach Factory (ICF) management and the contributions of supply-chain partners and industry collaborators in the successful realisation of this project.
A powerful symbol of India’s technological confidence, the Vande Bharat Sleeper reinforces the nation’s ability to conceive, design, and deliver complex, high-performance mobility solutions to global benchmarks. Indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by BEML at its advanced Rail Complex in Bengaluru, the trainset embodies world-class engineering powered by Indian ingenuity—engineered for speeds of up to 180 kmph and optimised for long-distance excellence.
