Washington (Staff Correspondent): Billionaire tech giant Elon Musk recently faced trouble when he claimed that $50 million worth of condoms were sent to Gaza by the US government. The matter came to light when a reporter fact-checked his words and told that his claim was wrong. Musk admitted this during a conversation with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, where he talked about correcting the mistake.
Musk’s X (Twitter) post and fact-check
The controversy started when Musk posted on his social media site X (formerly Twitter) that the huge consignment of condoms was an example of a government fraud. He had claimed that the consignment was sent to Gaza. But the reporter clarified that these condoms were actually sent to Mozambique under the HIV prevention program of USAID (US Agency for International Development), and not Gaza.
Musk’s statement admitting the mistake
After the correction, Musk admitted his mistake, but he did not completely deny his suspicions. “First of all, anything I say will be wrong and should be corrected,” Musk said. “We will make mistakes, but we will act immediately to correct any mistakes,” he added. Musk, however, questioned the need for such a large shipment, regardless of its destination.
