Mumbai: In a concentrated effort to address the growing challenge of iron deficiency and inadequate protein intake among young children, Danone India joined hands with the Government of Maharashtra to host dedicated health camps at two key locations in Mumbai – the Govandi and Dharavi Health Centres. The initiative aimed to raise awareness on Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA), conduct unique non-invasive iron deficiency screenings, and empower communities with the knowledge and resources needed to improve nutrition and overall wellbeing.
The camps focused on children aged 2 to 6 years—a critical developmental stage when adequate nutrition plays a vital role in physical growth and cognitive development. Around 200 children at each location underwent non-invasive screenings conducted by trained health professionals to assess potential risks of IDA.
Iron deficiency remains one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in India, impacting children’s learning abilities, attention span, and overall development. Through these camps, Danone reinforced the importance of iron-rich diets and effective iron absorption.
As part of the initiative, Danone distributed free Protinex to participating families, reinforcing its commitment to supporting nutritional needs within the community. The company has also recently launched its unique IronBiotics engine product range to combat IDA. IronBiotics engine is a scientifically designed blend of nutrients that support iron absorption.
