All their victories aside, India made it to the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand on March 9 at Dubai International Stadium.
One of India’s team members in the tournament squad, Shreyas Iyer has been delivering exemplary performances consistently.
In four games, fourth-order batsman Iyer has scored 195 runs at a batting average of 48.75, with two half-centuries, and four consecutive results of 40 and above. He will be ready to be awarded an award by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his outstanding performance.
Times of India had earlier stated that Shreyas Iyer, last term omitted on disciplinary reasons, will be reinstated his BCCI central contract. Ishan Kishan, who has not played any international cricket since then, was the second player whose central contract was withdrawn last time.
“The board will wait for Rohit’s decision after the Champions Trophy. If by any chance he chooses to retire, then the board will see what needs to be done. One can’t discount the fact that he won the T20 World Cup in July and has led well in the Champions Trophy as well,” TOI quoted a source as saying.
BCCI has presently four A+ central contract players in Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja not playing T20I cricket and failing in Tests have made the board allegedly think about scrapping these contracts.
According to the performances of the players throughout the year for Team India, contracts are awarded by the BCCI. The victory of India in the 2025 Champions Trophy can ensure the current A+ contract holders to hold their contracts.
Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant are also reportedly shifted to the Grade A category for next season following the central contract list announcement.
