New Delhi: The Harshavardhan Neotia–led Ambuja Neotia Group yesterday inaugurated the 2nd edition of the B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition at Kalaavani, Swabhumi, Kolkata. Open from August 29 to September 14, the exhibition honours the legacy of Balkrishna V. Doshi, India’s first Pritzker Prize–winning architect.

Regarded as a marquee event for India’s architectural fraternity, it celebrates humanistic design and innovation while inspiring future generations of designers and architects. On the occasion, the Group also announced the launch of the Prabir Mitra Memorial Award, a national recognition for promising architects.

Speaking at the inauguration, Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group, said, “Through the B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition and the Prabir Mitra Memorial Award, we aim to celebrate not only great architecture, but also the humane and enduring values that shape the profession — values of integrity, restraint, and purpose.”

This year’s B.V. Doshi Memorial Exhibition is dedicated to the life and work of architect Girish Doshi, a direct protégé of B.V. Doshi, India’s first Pritzker Laureate. The exhibition foregrounds Doshi’s deep-rooted ethos of simplicity, structural integrity, and human connection; values that have shaped contemporary Indian architecture. Through original sketches, models, photographs, and essays, the curation avoids spectacle, focusing instead on the thoughtful, restrained approach that both B.V. Doshi and Girish Doshi espoused.

Coinciding with the exhibition, the Ambuja Neotia Group instituted the Prabir Mitra Memorial Award, an annual recognition for emerging talent in Indian architecture. The award, carrying a prize of ₹5 lakhs, is named after the late Prabir Mitra, whose ethical leadership and vision have inspired generations of architects. It was conferred following a jury-led selection, with the inaugural jury comprising leading architects Partha Ranjan Das, Subir Kumar Basu, Abin Chaudhuri, and Vivek Singh Rathore.

The first award was presented to SQUARE, an architecture and interior consultancy praised for blending regional artistic traditions with a globally relevant design language, reflecting the evolving narrative of Indian spaces. The exhibition and award together sought to foster critical reflection, champion excellence, and inspire both industry professionals and the wider public about the power and purpose of humane, enduring architecture.
